100 Days….Plus One Week

I’m 15 for a moment.
Caught in between 10 and 20 and I’m
Just dreaming, counting the ways to where you are.

I’m 22 for a moment.
And she feels better than ever and we’re on fire,
Making our way back from Mars.

15 there’s still time for you.
Time to buy and time to lose.
There’s never a wish, better than this.
When you only got 100 years to live.
— 100 Years - Five for Fighting (John Ondrasik) - 2003

I had intended to write this missive last week, but one of my periodic infirmities kept me away from my keyboard. So, let’s now review President Trump’s first 100 days, plus an additional week.

Promises: Whether you like what he’s doing or not, you have to acknowledge that Donald Trump is doing all the things he said he would do when he campaigned. This is very refreshing. Biden literally did the opposite of what he campaigned on as did Obama. Both sold themselves as moderates and then prioritized all the issues of the hard left. Trump is likely fulfilling his campaign promises with more vigor and speed than was expected, but he is not doing anything different than he led us to believe he would do. Do what you say and say what you mean. That is a good thing, no matter who the politician is.

Overall: If you were to read the propaganda media and believe it (which you should never do), you would think we were in one of the worst periods in American history right now. But, let’s look at the facts. Illegal immigration and the border crisis are fixed, with illegal crossings at an all-time low. Fentanyl is still coming but Mexico, Canada and now even China recognize that there will be no trade deal with the U.S. unless they stop it. The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East are not over, but serious discussions are being had. The hate and discrimination of DEI and the S2LGBTQii+++ agenda is being scrapped both within the government and without. We are headed back to a color-blind society based on merit. Fraud is being exposed all over the government and spending is being reduced. America’s university centers of indoctrination in Neo-Marxist thought are being reined in. They are corrupt, inefficient, discriminatory and leftist. Taking their federal money and tax exemptions will force change. The military is once again focused on being a lethal fighting force instead of a green social project. Our debt crisis is far from fixed but it is moving in the right direction for the first time this century. Criminal aliens are being deported and criminal citizens are being jailed making America safer, particularly for women, who are disproportionately the victims of illegal alien crime. Military and FBI recruitment are at recent highs after having huge shortages under Biden. Gas prices are the lowest they have been in some time as the price of oil drops. The economy and world trade are being reset, as they need to be. This will involve some dislocation as it must. But the economy is not collapsing. All-in-all, the country is in a far, far better place than it was 107 days ago.

Blue States and Cities: This is still a republic after all and the 10th amendment to the constitution is still in place, meaning that the city and state governments still make many decisions that affect their citizens, independent of the federal government’s actions. This is how it should be. But the federal government’s actions are shining a very bright light on those Democratic dominated parts of the country where things are still not improving. Although many now want to join the U.S. military and FBI because of new leadership, they cannot recruit police in LA, Seattle, Chicago, NYC and any number of other blue cities. Gas prices are down to $2 in some places, but are over $5 in deep blue California and going up, due to government actions there. The bluest state in the union, Hawaii, just put in a .75% hotel tax to pay for “coping with climate change.” On top of its other taxes, that adds up to 20% total tax you will pay on a hotel room in Hawaii. I love Hawaii. But, that is offensive. And in California, a bill to make it a felony to sex traffic 16 and 17 year olds, was killed by Democrats. One Democrat tweeted that an 18 year old should not go to jail for paying a 16 year old $20 to have sex with him. Really? The Dems want this policy, but they know it is a political liability because sane people think sex trafficking is a bad thing. So, Dems are spending money now running ads saying that they are “protecting” 16 and 17 year olds and Republicans are “endangering” them. So, they want the policy but will not be honest and pay the political price for it. Democrats always worry that you will understand what they are really trying to do. Hence, they hide it.

Polls: You may have seen the polls recently showing Trump’s approval rating as poor. ABC News Propaganda even called it “the worst 100 day approval rating for a president in 80 years!” The problem is, that every single one of these polls also had Kamala Harris winning the November election comfortably and winning many if not all of the swing states. In other words, these polls were wrong then and they are wrong now. One of the polls admitted to only sampling 35% Trump voters, when we know he got 50% of the total vote. Legitimate polls do show Trump’s approval rating down from the beginning of the year, just not nearly as dramatic as the Neo-Marxist news outlets would have you believe.

Tariffs: All the belly aching about tariffs is coming from one of two sources. The first is people who will oppose anything Trump does. These are many Democrats and Republican Never-Trumpers. I have long said if Trump cured cancer, the headline from them would read “Trump puts thousands of doctors and nurses out of work!” The other opponents are business and financial people invested in products coming from China or other places. It will cost these people money so they oppose. The approach to these tariffs, like many things Trump does, probably could have been executed more artfully, but the objective is noble and needed and I believe the desired result will be achieved. Democrats are the ones who first noted income inequality as a problem 20 years ago. But their policies have exacerbated the situation. Proof of this is that the the worst inequality is in the bluest states. Treasury Secretary Bessent recently pointed out that more Americans visited Europe in the last year than ever before. Simultaneously, more Americans utilized food pantries than ever before. A barbell economy is not a good thing. We need to make things here and have more manufacturing jobs. We cannot be an economy of only financial and software engineers. Furthermore, as Bessent said, amongst the rights we have as Americans is not the right to buy cheap trinkets made by slave labor in China.

Democrat’s Response: I have paid close attention to this. Leading Democrats took to the airways after the 100 day mark of Trump 2.0. They staged a “sit-in” at the capitol and were involved in various other stunts. Universally, they called it the worst start of any president and they vowed to “take action” to stop this “extremism”. But what none of them did, as far as I could tell, was say what was so wrong with what Trump has done and what they would do differently. They know that saying, “we are going to go back and do it like Biden,” is not going to work. But that is what they want to do and the only thing they really can do. So, they are just silent about it. They have a real problem. They have no agenda that will connect with voters. They are betting that Trump fails and they can just be the only alternative standing. That is why the media is so focused on convincing people that he has failed, in spite of the evidence that he is succeeding. The real Dem agenda today is to get involved in wars, the climate change hoax, transgenders everywhere for everyone, abort as many babies as possible, and be soft on crime. Interestingly they keep talking about Trump having tax cuts for the rich, when the Trump agenda will actually hurt the rich and help those struggling people working for wages. Trump has co-opted the Dems position of being for the working class. The Dems know it, but they keep the headline hoping that people won’t notice that they have become the party of the rich.

100 years is not 100 days. But this week’s song is a beautiful ballad by a very talented singer/songwriter, John Ondrasik. The point is how quickly 100 years can pass and what you must do in that time. Trump is having the most engaged and successful 100 days certainly since Reagan but perhaps since FDR.

He is doing things that have needed to be done that I and others were afraid to do. Trump fears nothing. I just heard today that he wants the Washington football team renamed the Redskins and to reopen Alcatraz for violent criminals. I am loving every minute of it.

I remain respectfully,
Congressman John Campbell
